Transit Snafu
Yesterday morning's monsoon took its toll on the Subway System leaving many Dashing Dans and Dotties in a quandary at Penn Station and Flatbush Avenue. Announcements were being made at the LIRR Atlantic Terminal to direct recently arrived riders back to Jamaica so they could catch a train into Penn to get into Manhattan. What they didn't realize is that most commuters coming into Flatbush Avenue are heading to lower Manhattan and, once arriving at Penn Station, will face the same dilemma - how to get downtown with most subway service suspended.
Before the return trip home, many commuters tried to access the MTA's web site to no avail.
The deluge just hammers away at a point that is well known among seasoned commuters: whenever service is severely effected it is always good to have a plan and know our way around. You cannot depend on the LIRR or NYC Transit to provide you with timely and useful information when it is needed.
